Thanks to all who took time to look at my MiniConda installation problem.
It turns out that I had a $HOME/.condarc file (created who knows when?)
that had conda-forge channels going first, and a "channel_priority: strict"
command. Getting rid of this allowed the miniconda installation to succeed
as expected.
Not sure how we collectively remember this, in case some user reports a
similar problem.
