Compatibility: Not sure - this is just an install of Intel Compiler Suite 2016 for CentOS 7.2 and then source /opt/intel2016/compilers_and_libraries_2016.1.150/linux/bin/iccvars.sh intel64

then icc -v gives

[rcw.broadwell ~]$ icc -v
icc version 16.0.1 (gcc version 4.8.5 compatibility)

So I assume it just detects what the base system compilers are. Not sure...
