Thank you all for the kind encouragement. I shall proceed without hesitation to edit the document using my favorite tui which at the moment is vim. I have had occasion to use ed, but prior experience with EDLIN (background music: scary Halloween-type with high-pitched piercing screams) convinced me that in this case the old ways were perhaps not for me. No matter, of course, since I am not in any competition to become a real man. :-) One day I should learn all that Maple does. Being the type who trails dropped negatives and occasionally mistakes '*' for '+', I am especially fond of its idiot-checking capabilities.
