Hi everyone:
My current plan is the announce the release of AmberTools, version 1.0 on
Monday, March 31. There is still some time to get minor code/test tweaks
and documentation updates in, but please don't push my patience.
I'll post another "release candidate" tomorrow. We want to look good on
the opening announcment. However, since this is GPL, and people just download
it, we can post a "version 1.1" with bug fixes or enhancements at any time.
So, I'm just thinking we have to bite the bullet and get what we have out
there.
We are going to a "print on demand" service (www.lulu.com) for the manuals.
People will get the pdf file of the AmberTools manual in the tar file, but
will also be able to purchase bound copies from lulu. So, they can print it
to a laser printer for only the cost of paper and ink (which someone else may
be paying for anyway), or they can purchase bound copies for about $12 (plus
shipping) from Lulu. We'll have to see how this works, and comments (or even
suggestions of other on-line binderies) are welcome.
My hope is to announce Amber10 itself fairly soon. We have some outstanding
sander vs. pmemd issues there, as well as some other minor tweaks, but overall
I think it will be a good upgrade for people. I would love to be able to go
to electronic distribution there as well, (burning and shipping CD's is a
royal pain, and will only be complicated by my move), but I haven't made a
decision on this yet. I will need help if we were to go the electronic
route. There is still time for updates to the manual, but please don't
delay! All printing options (including lulu) have production delays.
Thanks to everyone who has been downloading and testing stuff.
...regards...dac
