p.s. there is a newer update of the netcdf distribution; this works fine,
except that I had to type make install upon the first make to set up the
required directories; however, as the newer version unfortunately does not
fix any of the problems I've seen already (as per previous e-mail), I
think that the changes are not significant enough to warrant an update at
this time to what is there...
