Thank you everyone for clearing this up for me.
I'll give the -no-updates followed by regular configure a try on Monday.
By the way, the barebones machine we are using was pretty easy. We are
using Docker. Once you have the Docker Engine installed it takes about 3
lines to create a new container (sort-of a virtual machine) that is
plain-jane ubuntu. Probably also RH and other flavors available, but we've
just started playing with this so I haven't really looked into it.
