Seems to work.

By the way, and this is probably just FYI, even if a change in the cvs version doesn't explain:

* netcdf -will- configure on (pull from CVS minutes ago)
GNU Fortran (GCC) 4.2.3
Linux byron.woods.ccrc 2.6.9-42.0.3.EL #1 SMP Mon Sep 25 17:14:34 EDT 2006 ia64 ia64 ia64 GNU/Linux

* but not on (this morning's release candidate)
GNU Fortran (GCC) 4.3.1
Linux glycam.ccrc.uga.edu 2.6.9-42.0.3.EL #1 SMP Mon Sep 25 17:14:34 EDT 2006 ia64 ia64 ia64 GNU/Linux
Complaint:
"checking for C-equivalent to Fortran routine "SUB"... configure: error: Could not compile conftest.f"

Each is using a second gcc install, so I set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to /usr/local/lib for both.

In each case, not that it should matter... the native gcc is "(GCC) 3.4.6 20060404 (Red Hat 3.4.6-3)" and the gfortran is "GNU Fortran 95 (GCC) 4.1.0 20060515 (Red Hat 4.1.0-18)" -- but my path was pointing to the ones mentioned above, not to the natively installed versions.
