boost's demanding compiler requirements was a known issue:
several of us raised it at the gleap strategy meeting in Feb 2007.
Apparently management decided boost was worth the cost, but now
portability is back in the spotlight with the recent release,
and management is looking for a scapegoat.
Regarding my head, it is lump free.
Regarding bug 56, Im still waiting for all those buggy C++ compilers.
Management cant face that C++ is a better C.
